FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers about how PlanCheckNow works and what it covers.

What does PlanCheckNow do?

PlanCheckNow is an AI-assisted review tool that reads architectural and structural plan sets and surfaces issues a plan reviewer is likely to flag. It highlights coordination gaps between disciplines, code risk signals, and common submission issues so your team can address them before intake. The goal is to reduce first-cycle comments and shorten the path to permit.

Is this a full plan check?

No. PlanCheckNow is a pre–plan check review, not an official plan check. It produces a draft correction list for internal use. Final review and approval still rest with licensed professionals and the authority having jurisdiction.

What types of plans can I upload?

You can upload architectural and structural PDF sets, along with supporting documents such as energy forms, soils reports, and response letters. The review works best on full drawing sets rather than isolated sheets, since many issues are about coordination across plans.

What does the system actually analyze?

The review looks at sheet index and general notes, floor plans and elevations, structural framing and foundation plans, shear walls and hold-downs, egress and stair details, and code-required callouts. It cross-checks information across sheets and between disciplines, then generates a correction-letter-style report with severity, location, and applicable code references.

How accurate are the results?

PlanCheckNow is designed to catch the issues most commonly flagged in first-cycle plan check, but it is not a substitute for a licensed reviewer. The output should be treated as a first pass that your team validates and edits. Accuracy improves as the rule packs are tuned for the specific jurisdiction and project type.

How does jurisdiction detection work?

When a project is created, PlanCheckNow reads address and title block information from the plan set to infer the jurisdiction. It then applies the matching rule pack, including the relevant code cycle and any local amendments or bulletins the pack covers. You can override the detected jurisdiction from the project settings if the plans have been mislabeled.

Does it replace plan review?

No. It is an assistive tool. PlanCheckNow does not replace licensed professional review, stamped drawings, or official approval by the building department. It is intended to help your team find and fix issues earlier, so the official review is cleaner.

How long does a review take?

Most projects return a full report in a few minutes after upload. Review time scales with the size of the drawing set and the complexity of the scope. You do not need to keep the browser open; the report is available from the project once the review completes.

What kind of issues does it catch?

Typical findings include arch vs. structural framing misalignments, missing or inconsistent shear wall callouts, undefined hold-downs, egress and stair violations, guardrail and handrail issues, EERO and emergency egress window problems, setback and height concerns, and missing Title 24 forms. Each finding is categorized as critical, major, minor, coordination, or code risk.

Can I use this before submitting to the city?

Yes. That is the intended workflow. Run PlanCheckNow on the final set before submittal, resolve the findings your team agrees with, and submit a cleaner package. Firms that run a pre-check typically see fewer comments and fewer review cycles.

Who is this built for?

Architects, structural engineers, expediters, developers, and in-house plan review teams at city agencies. The reviewer-facing workflow is designed to fit alongside existing QA and coordination steps, not replace them.

Is my data stored or shared?

Uploads and reports are stored in your workspace so your team can return to them. They are not shared with other customers and are not used to train third-party models. If your firm has specific retention or deletion requirements, the Teams plan supports configurable data handling.
